Wesley Research Institute researcher Dr John Feenstra and Clinical Trial Coordinator Bronwen Field, had the privilege of attending the 18th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Saudi Arabia Pulmonary Hypertension Society recently.

As guests of Professor Abdullah Aldalaan, the president of the Pulmonary Hypertension Society of Saudi Arabia, their trip allowed them to meet with experts who are advancing research into Pulmonary Hypertension and paving the way for Pulmonary Hypertension medical advancements and trials.

From touchdown in Riyadh, their visit began with a tour of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, and having the opportunity to meet with Prof Aldalaan’s dedicated pulmonary hypertension team. The hospital, renowned for its cutting-edge research and comprehensive patient care, provided an insightful look into their approach to managing Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). Discussions allowed both teams to exchange perspectives on trial design, recruitment challenges, and innovations in patient care, drawing parallels between our work at the Wesley Research Institute and their ongoing studies.

The collaboration extended beyond King Faisal Specialist Hospital. They also had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Hassam Sakkijha and his team at King Fahad Medical City. Their commitment to advancing PAH research was evident, and meaningful discussions on aligning research strategies, overcoming barriers to trial enrolment, and enhancing cross-border collaborations were had. It became clear that despite geographical differences, a common goal was shared: improving outcomes for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension through rigorous research and innovative clinical trials.

In the last few days of their visit, Dr John Feenstra and Clinical Trial Coordinator Bronwen, attended the 18th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Saudi Arabia Pulmonary Hypertension Society. Dr John Feenstra had the privilege of delivering a presentation on the management of Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) in Australia and New Zealand, sharing insights and experiences from our region with an engaged audience.

As their time in Saudi Arabia drew to a close, they left with a deeper appreciation for the expertise and dedication of their Saudi colleagues. The visit underscored the importance of international collaboration in the field of pulmonary hypertension and set the foundation for future partnerships aimed at advancing clinical trials and improving patient care.

The connections we forged and the insights we gained will undoubtedly shape our approach to Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) research, reinforcing our shared mission of making a meaningful impact on the lives of patients worldwide
