
Wesley Research Institute congratulates Professor John Fraser AO on being named an Officer of the Order of Australia for his distinguished service to medicine as an intensive care physician, surgeon and global leader in critical care research.
Professor Fraser, who serves as the Clinical Director of Wesley Research Institute’s Queensland Spatial Biology Centre (QSBC) and the Director of Intensive Care at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, has been recognised for his extraordinary contributions to improving outcomes for critically ill patients through groundbreaking research and innovation.
Professor Fraser’s achievements are nothing short of extraordinary. His leadership and vision in critical care research have had a profound global impact and we are honoured to have him as our Clinical Director of the Queensland Spatial Biology Centre at Wesley Research Institute

“While only launched at the beginning of 2024, the QSBC has already achieved significant breakthroughs, demonstrating the transformative potential of spatial biology in advancing healthcare.”
Professor Fraser is the founder of the Critical Care Research Group (CCRG), which has driven transformative initiatives such as heart transplant innovations that increase the donor pool by 25%, the ICU of the Future co-design project and the development of bionic hearts and lungs for patients with end-stage organ failure. His work also includes COVID Critical, the world’s largest database of ICU COVID-19 patient data, which has provided invaluable insights to clinicians globally.
