Every day, patients walk through our hospital doors seeking the best possible care.
Behind the scenes, clinicians at The Wesley Hospital, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital, and St Stephen’s Hospital are leading research that enhances patient outcomes. Their work is driving faster diagnoses, better treatments, and real solutions that help patients.
As the official research partner of UnitingCare Queensland (UCQ), we enable this innovative and impactful research through our Clinical Grant Program.
Right now, we are funding research in some of the most pressing healthcare areas, including:
- Associate Professor David Wong and Dr Sepinoud Firouzmand: Developing advanced PET scans to detect Alzheimer’s earlier, enabling faster intervention and disease management.
- Dr James Winearls and Professor John Fraser: Using AI in Intensive Care Units to predict crises, reduce risks and save more lives.
- Professor John Fraser and Associate Professor Kirsty Short: Enhancing pandemic preparedness for young people through cutting edge spatial biology research at the Wesley Research Institute’s Queensland Spatial Biology Centre.
- Dr Luke Garske and Professor Ian Stewart: Exploring the effectiveness of inspiratory muscle training to aid recovery after surgery for malignant pleural effusion.
- Dr Christopher Raffel and Professor John Fraser: Testing an advanced ultrasound to improve mitral regurgitation diagnosis and reduce heart failure risks.
- Dr Janine Porter-Steele OAM and Dr Sandie McCarthy: Testing a telehealth-delivered exercise therapy for cancer survivors living with ostomies (stomas), to improve physical and emotional well-being.
Clinicians do more than treat patients. They also lead research that creates real solutions, improving lives quickly and effectively.
These medical breakthroughs mean patients are living longer, treatments are becoming more effective, and care is improving every day. They aren’t just wins for healthcare – they enable moments that can change everything for patients and their families.
When clinicians receive the tools to innovate, patients see the results.
However, research can only move forward as fast as funding allows. Learn more and help fund life-changing research that improves care for every patient today.
