On Wednesday 9 September, thousands of Australians came together to support a cause that impacts us all: medical research.

As part of the first-ever Medical Research Giving Day, supporters from across the country united behind a shared belief that research has the power to improve lives, transform health outcomes and create a better future for generations to come.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Wesley Research Institute (WRI) raised $28,875, contributing to a national fundraising total of more than $1.5 million across 31 Australian Medical Research Institutes.

You Don’t Need a Lab Coat to Be a Hero
Medical breakthroughs don’t happen without researchers, clinicians and healthcare teams. But they also don’t happen without the support of people who believe in the value of discovery.
This Giving Day showed that everyone has a role to play in advancing medical research. Whether through a donation, sharing the campaign with friends and family, or helping raise awareness, every contribution made a difference.
The response from our community was a powerful reminder that meaningful change happens when people come together behind a common purpose.
Today, Australians proved that you don’t need a lab coat to help save a life. Every donation, large or small, helps accelerate the treatments, diagnostics and cures that begin in Australia’s institutes and reach patients across the country.

Supporting Life-Changing Research
The funds raised will help Wesley Research Institute accelerate vital research into some of Australia’s most pressing health challenges, including:
- Cancer
- Heart disease
- Coeliac disease
- Other serious and chronic health conditions
This support enables researchers to continue pursuing discoveries that could lead to earlier diagnoses, better treatments and improved quality of life for thousands of Australians.
Importantly, it helps move promising research from the laboratory into real-world healthcare, where it can make a lasting difference for patients and families.
A Community Standing Behind Research
While the dollars raised will have a tangible impact on research, the significance of Medical Research Giving Day extends far beyond fundraising.
For researchers dedicating their careers to finding answers, and for patients and families navigating serious health conditions, the day delivered a powerful message: you are not alone.
It demonstrated that there is a community standing beside them, believing in their work, supporting their journey and investing in a future where better health outcomes are possible.

Thank You
From everyone at Wesley Research Institute, thank you to everyone who donated, shared with their networks or had a conversation on the day with staff at WRI, for helping make Australia’s first Medical Research Giving Day such a meaningful success.
Together, we demonstrated what can be achieved when people unite behind the shared belief that medical research can improve and save lives.
You showed that you don’t need a lab coat to be a hero.
And because of your support, we are one step closer to the discoveries that will change lives tomorrow.
Thank you for standing behind Australian science and helping turn research into hope.
