A gift in your will can save lives

Wesley Medical Research conducts world-class research that delivers immediate improvements to patient outcomes and saves lives. A gift in your Will to Wesley Medical Research will fund critical research that achieves a lasting impact for generations to come.

Never before in our lifetime has medical research been more critical than it is today.

Including Wesley Medical Research in your Will can make a lasting difference and leave a legacy of hope for the future.

Your gift will help find new and emerging treatments that will save lives, improve patient care and give hope in times of unimaginable darkness.

Your gift will provide the best gift of all – a saved life, a better life, a full life.

Wesley Medical Research will ensure that your gift achieves impact

Wesley Medical Research was established in 1994, as the official research organisation of UnitingCare Queensland.

We conduct world-class research across all UnitingCare hospitals including The Wesley Hospital, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital at the Sunshine Coast and St Stephen’s Hospital at Hervey Bay.

Wesley Medical Research encourages and supports research initiated by people on the front-line who really know the value of clinical research – the doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and other health care professionals in our hospitals. They are driven by a desire to give patients better treatment options and improved quality of life for a range of contemporary diseases and health issues.

Your gift is precious. We will make it count.

Who will your gift help?

Kym's Story

At 43 years old, Kym was in peak physical fitness. One morning, however, she developed severe heart palpitations, nausea, muscle cramps, shaking and abdominal pain.

Kym was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Acute Intermittent Porphyria.

Over the next nine months, she was hospitalised eight times with life-threatening, debilitating attacks of the disease.

Kym’s life changed when she was offered a new Porphyria treatment as part of a global clinical trial at Wesley Medical Research.

Since commencing this treatment, Kym hasn’t had any acute disease flare-ups. She has returned to work, goes to functions, takes her children to sporting events and meets with friends.

The whole experience has been profound for me. I thought I’d lost the joy in my life. But I’ve certainly got that back through the clinical trial. I feel so grateful and so fortunate that this is available… to have my life back,”

Kym, Clinical Trial Participant
Kym's life has turned around since joining a clinical trial for a new treatment for Acute Intermittent Porphyria.

How to leave a gift for research

  • Percentage Share Gift

This is the most flexible approach to leaving a gift. You do not need to know how much your estate will be worth, you just need to consider the share you would like to leave to each beneficiary. This gift has the advantage that it will not be eroded in value by inflation over the years.

  • Residual Gift

Another way to contribute is to leave a percentage or the whole of what is left in your estate after you have provided for your loved ones. This type of gift is easy to add to an existing Will without interfering with any specific sums you have left to family or friends.

Just 1%, 2%, 5% or more of the residuary of your estate can make a real difference.

  • Pecuniary Gift

You may wish to leave us a fixed sum of money (known as a pecuniary bequest).
Please remember that this type of gift does not allow for changes in your circumstances or inflation

  • Specific Purpose Gift

You may wish to leave a gift for a specific type of research. Please contact us on 073721 1500 or complete the form below to discuss this option further.
