Research Officer / Senior Research Officer

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for Research Officers or Senior Research Officers (Academic Level B-C equivalent) in Health Services Research

As the official research partner of UnitingCare, the research activity undertaken by Wesley Research Institute spans all UnitingCare hospitals including The Wesley Hospital, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital at the Sunshine Coast, and St Stephen’s Hospital at Hervey Bay. Wesley Research Institute collaborates with other UnitingCare agencies, industry, research organisations and academia to impact the health of all Australians and beyond. 

Purpose of the Position:

This position will be responsible for leading one or more health services research projects funded under the UnitingCare Research Strategy, and addressing key UnitingCare priorities, and will contribute to multiple projects as required. 

This includes development of research protocols and ethics applications, data collection, data analysis, conducting literature reviews, and writing research reports and manuscripts for publication. You will be responsible for ensuring the project/s are conducted in a high quality, timely and ethical manner, and that milestones are met. 

This position will also be responsible for writing or contributing to grant/funding applications, as well as representing Wesley Research Institute at conferences and other events.

About You:

The successful candidate will ideally present with the following:

Essential 

  • PhD in health economics, public health, implementation science, other health services research discipline, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated research track record including reports, conference presentations and/or peer-reviewed publications, with expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research
  • Demonstrated high level conceptual and analytical skills, and ability to critically appraise and interpret complex information
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage research projects including developing project protocols and ethics applications, and delivering milestones and outcomes to agreed timelines and budgets
  • Experience establishing and/or managing complex multi-disciplinary, multi-partner health services research projects [applicable to Senior Research Officer]
  • Understanding of health services operation and management 
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and coordinate multiple competing demands
  • Strong team player with flexibility to work both autonomously and as part of a close-knit team
  • Willingness to demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation for the role and uphold the values of the UnitingCare group (Compassion, Respect, Justice, Working Together, Leading Through Learning)
  • Demonstrated experience of Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, along with relevant data management and analysis software
  • Driver’s licence

Desirable

  • Qualifications and experience in a health care profession such as a medicine, nursing or allied health
  • Experience in consumer-led research, participatory research or co-design
  • Demonstrated ability to attract competitive grant funding or a high likelihood to in the future [applicable to Senior Research Officer]
  • Demonstrated history of research service, such as supervising students, guest lecturing & peer-review [applicable to Senior Research Officer]
