Andrew Barron

Chief Executive Officer

Leading the Executive Leadership Team, Andrew is the Chief Executive Officer at Wesley Research Institute.

Andrew is responsible for the achievement of the strategic goals of Wesley Research Institute and oversees its various operations.

He has previously worked as a senior executive for nine years at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, four of which as General Manager.  He also served for more than two years as a Wesley Research Institute Board member during his tenure at St Andrew’s Hospital. With experience as Chief Operating Officer with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (QLD) for nearly five years, he is a strong transformational executive leader.

Andrew has delivered sustained financial and cultural benefits across health, community services, aviation and financial services industries. He has successfully shaped and implemented business development strategies in a patient/customer-centred context.

Rod Facey

Rod Facey

Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer, Rod is responsible for the overall financial management of Wesley Research Institute.

He plays a vital role in building economic sustainability, encouraging efficient use of financial resources, and contributing to corporate strategy.

Rod is a qualified CPA and has held senior financial leadership roles for over 20 years across various sectors, including banking, membership, property and construction, and manufacturing. He has extensive experience in delivering positive organisational outcomes through a risk management lens and has extensive experience in customer-centric and purpose-driven organisations, always ensuring a people-first approach to financial management and growth.

Sherman Leung

Sherman Leung

Head of Research Operations

Sherman is the Head of Research Operations at Wesley Research Institute and is responsible for the strategic planning and operation of the Clinical Trials Centre, Biobank, Clinical Innovation and Key Programs of Research.

Sherman holds a Bachelor of Science with first-class honours and a University Medal, and a PhD in the field of medicine. He has held roles as an academic lecturer at Griffith University, a research coordinator at Microba Life Sciences, and was part of the leadership team at Nucleus Network – an early-stage clinical trials centre that conducts clinical studies for some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

He is trained in Good Clinical Practice, is a certified PRINCE2 Practitioner and has a strong interest in the ethical delivery of research having served on the Human Research Ethics Committee at Metro North Health. Sherman has a track record in driving tangible change for research organisations, helping to improve their culture and performance.

Natalie Shillitto

Natalie Shillitto

Fundraising & Marketing Manager

Natalie is the Fundraising and Marketing Manager for Wesley Research Institute.

In her role, Natalie implements best fundraising practice across all activities, building a community of supporters, understanding donor interests & passions and communicating the impact of research conducted at Wesley Research Institute.

Natalie is an experienced fundraiser and has worked at various Universities and Charities for the past 14 years, including Cancer Council NSW, University of Technology Sydney and Hello Sunday Morning (a health charity). Natalie has an excellent understanding of various aspects of the fundraising function including direct marketing appeals, major donors, regular giving, and bequests, as well as her initial background in marketing.
