The Collection

The Ventyx WRI Tissue Bank collects and curates a diverse range of specimen types.

Tissue with matching blood samples and clinical data are donated by consenting patients during the course of their treatment at The Wesley Hospital. Since its establishment, the Tissue Bank has developed a network of participating surgeons who work with Tissue Bank staff in the procurement of tissue samples.

Consequently, the collection continues to expand rapidly, both in its number and diversity of tissue samples, and in addition is able to prospectively collect on behalf of collaborative partners.

Sample Count: Approx 24 000

Patient Count: Approx 1 200

(Specimen count as of September 2011)

Current Sample Types

  • Clinical data
  • Blood
  • Normal/abnormal/cancerous tissue
  • Guthrie cards
  • FFPE blocks
  • H&E slides

Blood

  • Serum
  • Plasma
  • Whole Blood
  • Blood Pellet
  • Buffy coat with/without DMSO

Researchers who are a part of an ethically and scientifically valid research project can request samples from the Ventyx WRI Tissue Bank. By utilising the Tissue Bank, researchers save valuable time and funds which otherwise would be spent on sourcing samples.

A full range of clinically annotated cancer/abnormal tissue and matching blood samples for use in medical research projects are available. These biospecimens collected fall under two categories:

  1. General Collection – material collected by the Tissue Bank is available to all applicants.
  2. Prospective Collection – material collected by the Tissue Bank is available for a particular research study.

Please note: All applications must meet the ethical and scientific guidelines set by the Tissue Bank Committee.

If you wish to apply for samples or require any additional information please contact the Ventyx WRI Tissue Bank Manager on (07) 3721 1519 or email tissuebank@wesleyresearch.com.au for more information.
