About the Clinical Trials Centre
The Wesley Research Institute (WRI) Clinical Trials Centre is a purpose-built and designed facility dedicated to conducting clinical trials. It is attached to Brisbane's Wesley Hospital, a major specialist centre networked to four other UnitingCare Health hospitals across Queensland. It is also ideally located within five minutes of Brisbane's central business district and in close proximity to three major universities.
Through The WRI’s relationship with The Wesley Hospital and UnitingCare Health, the Centre can offer access to a comprehensive range of resources including:
- 465 licensed hospital beds
- 887 specialist medical practitioners, nurses and allied health professionals
- 54,039 admissions a year
- Full range of medical and surgical services plus an on-site emergency medicine department, intensive care unit and maternity services
*Stats as at April 2008
The Centre ensures participants have access to the latest, most advanced drugs and treatments. It also has the important function of enabling clinicians to stay at the forefront of the awareness of emerging drugs, medical treatments, current clinical practice and provides them with a comprehensive range of resources to help build a healthier community.
Since 1998, The WRI has conducted over 60 clinical trials in all therapeutic areas. All trials are scientifically, ethically and legally approved, so as to ensure the safety of the participants, transparency of the research and the highest standard of outcomes and benefits to the community. While many clinical research companies are based overseas, the Centre meets a growing demand for clinical trial services in Australia. The Centre attracts both national and international pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to conduct more clinical trials in Brisbane.
