WRI Membership

WRI Membership

WRI is entering a new and expanded phase of its development aimed at increasing the health benefits that WRI is able to bring to people through medical research. In keeping with this growth in activities and facilities, WRI is embarking on an invigorated membership program designed to bring together a group of people who are interested in furthering the interests of WRI.

The WRI is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that is part of UnitingCare. It is located within the precincts of The Wesley Hospital in Auchenflower. WRI is unique in Australia. While most research organisations focus on long-term research, WRI generates clinical research whose results improve patient care immediately.

Now 15 years old, WRI is experiencing remarkable growth, and we have been fortunate to attract the support of companies, the Queensland Government and philanthropic organisations, notably Mr Chuck Feeney’s Atlantic Philanthropies whose $10 million grant had a seminal impact on our development.

WRI is undergoing its largest expansionary phase with the building of the Health and Medical Research Centre, which will be completed later this year. WRI was awarded a $10 million grant from the Queensland Government to develop this new facility, which will occupy an entire floor of the new East Wing within The Wesley Hospital precinct, and will vastly extend the Institute’s range of research activity.

Members must be “natural persons”, that is, individual people. There are two categories of Membership that you can apply for.

The two categories are:

Practitioner Members – registered medical practitioners or allied health professionals who are also licensed to practice at one or more UnitingCare Hospitals in Australia;

Special Members – others invited by the Board of WRI to join and who do not satisfy the requirements of Practitioner MembershipBy becoming a Member of WRI, you will be encouraged to participate in the life of the Institute. You will have the right to participate in election of WRI Directors and to attend general meetings. You will be invited to WRI events and will receive research updates and annual reports.

If you would like to become a Member, please take the time to download and read the ‘WRI Membership Constitution’ and the ‘WRI Membership Further Information’ documents. To proceed with your application, then download and complete the relevant application form and submit to WRI with the $100 annual fee.
