Mr Bill Brett Senior
Bill Brett is a highly regarded retired businessman. For many years, his family owned and operated a timber and hardware company that became an institution in the commercial life of Queensland. He and his family have provided very strong support to the Wesley Research Institute and have played active parts in the governance of both the Institute and the Wesley Hospital.
Professor Noel M. Caplice
Noel Caplice, MD, PhD, is Professor and Director of the Centre for Research in Vascular Biology at the National University of Cork, Ireland. He previously held professorial positions in pharmacology and medicine at the Mayo Clinic in the USA. His work at the National University of Cork and the Mayo places him at the forefront of research into cardiovascular disease. Professor Caplice also has a strong connection with and understanding of the quality of research in Brisbane having completed his PhD on cardiovascular diseases at the University of Queensland under the supervision of Professor Julie Campbell.
Ms Leneen Forde AC
Leneen Forde AC, DStJ, LLB (Qld), D Univ (Sthn Qld, QUT and Griffith), Hon. DUniv (ACU), Hon. DLitt (Qld) is Chancellor of Griffith University and a former Governor of Queensland. Ms Forde, daughter-in-law of former Prime Minister of Australia, the Right Honorable Frank Forde PC, had careers as a medical laboratory technician and in the law. In 1998/99 she chaired a landmark Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse of Children in Queensland Institutions.
Professor Göran K Hansson
Göran Hansson is Professor of Cardiovascular Research at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He holds an MD and PhD from Gothenburg University, Sweden, was a Fogarty postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington in Seattle and a professor of cell biology at Gothenburg University before he joined Karolinska Institute in 1995. Dr Hansson is the current Chairman of the Nobel Committee for physiology or medicine and a member of the Nobel Assembly of Karolinska Institute.
Mr Harold Mitchell AO
Harold Mitchell is a leading Melbourne-based businessman and philanthropist. His company, Mitchell & Partners, is now the largest independently owned media buying agency in Australia, of which he remains chairman and sole owner. It was one of the first media specialist agencies in the world; Mitchell & Partners services the interests of over 50 advertising agencies with 500 clients and group advertising billings of $1 billion.
Reverend The Hon. Dr Gordon Moyes AC
Gordon Moyes holds a prominent place in the Uniting Church and in Australian public life, having served in numerous community organisations for many years. He is presently a Member of the Legislative Council, the Upper House of the New South Wales Parliament and formerly the Superintendent of Wesley Mission, Australia’s largest Christian welfare service.
Professor Judith Ann Whitworth AC
A leading figure in medical research in Australia, Professor Whitworth, AC, DSc, MD, PhD, BS (Melb.), FRACP, is the Director of the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the Howard Florey Professor of Medical Research at the Australian National University. Her previous positions include Australia’s Chief Medical Officer and Chairman of the Medical Research Committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia.
