Critically ill patients now have an extra treatment option, thanks to doctors at Wesley Medical Research.
Sepsis kills more Australians than breast cancer, colon cancer or traffic accidents. A new drug has just been successfully trialled in patients admitted to intensive care units with extremely low blood pressure. The target patients were those whose blood pressure had not responded to standard treatments, even in extreme doses. Low blood pressure is potentially very dangerous and can result in death.
“Wesley Medical Research supported The Wesley Hospital as the highest recruiting site out of eight in Queensland for this major trial. This shows that here at the Wesley we are part of significant research giving critically ill patients new treatment options,” said Prof David Paterson, CEO of Wesley Medical Research.
